Meet Dawn Hancock
Dawn is a do gooder through and through. She is the founder of the renowned branding + design firm, Firebelly Design, doing good design for good reason. She founded the Firebelly Foundation which is responsible for Reason to Give, Firebelly U, Camp Firebelly. She started the Grant for Good and has been spreading the doctrine of do-good design around the world since before it was cool.
What inspires you?
The generosity of strangers.
What do you believe?
It’s always darkest before the Dawn.
What scares you?
What don’t people know about you?
I’m very shy.
Who do you admire?
Oprah’s an easy choice. Perhaps a less obvious answer is Anita Roddick. She was the founder of the Body Shop. Amazing woman. Amazing spirit. Her book Body & Soul changed my view of what was possible for a company. After reading that cover-to-cover (which is as rare an occurence as me winning the lottery, which has in fact happened twice in my life, no not millions or anything), I knew a company like Firebelly could work. Sadly she died in 2007 and I was never able to meet her or tell her what an influence she had on my life.
If readers came over for dinner what would you prepare?
Way too much. I have a habit of over preparing for dinner parties.
If you had to change careers what would you want to do?
So many options. Chef, Mixologist, DJ, Dog Shelter Proprietor, Race Car Driver, Stunt Woman, Fireworks Designer, Hustler
What do you suck at?
Drawing. Don’t play Pictionary with me. We will never win. Ever.
What is your hidden talent?
Efficiency - I always know the quickest route from point a to b in life.
“Faith is knowing one of two things shall happen: either you will be given something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly.” -Edward Teller
